BATU, EAST JAVA – Director of Strategic Planning and Operations, USAID Asia Bureau, Jeff Cohen, expressed his appreciation of the quality of the reading culture and active learning programs he observed at SDN Sumbergondo 2, Batu. The teachers at the school, according to Mr. Cohen, are consistently applying the results of the training and mentoring provided by USAID PRIORITAS. The students are experiencing quality teaching and learning.
According to Sri Winarni, the school principal, all the teachers at the school are already implementing active learning. "Teachers are tending more towards facilitating students to experiment, solve problems, generate creative work, and have the courage to make presentations," said Sri.
According to Jeff Cohen, the school has received the support of government and the community to help provide learning facilities, which means that the teachers can develop active learning so that students can study well. He made these remarks during his discussions with the teachers at the school.
The Mayor of Batu, Punjul Santoso, said that the cooperation with USAID had already succeeded in improving the quality of basic education in the district. "Batu City Government is ready to support the sustainability of the USAID PRIORITAS program. We hope this cooperation can be continued and expanded to many other schools," said Punjul. (Anw)
